Marble Cake(zebra Cake)

Marble Cake(zebra Cake)

The marble cake has a long time story. From my childhood I am used to this cake. When Amma(Mom) starts the preparation activities itself,I and my brother and sister is so excited and wait for the outcome.Oh!!we loved this cake. The best part of baking the cake is when the batter is made and while the time the oven is preheated we always liked to lick the batter. So Amma used to tell us don't eat the dough,it causes you tummy ache.Although Amma says so,secretly we do lick them.:)..Atlas Amma put the batter in the oven and gives the vessel in which the batter is made for us.Even though there is not much left,we used to fight for the leftover. Those times are really wonderful. The Aroma which comes around the house is so good when the baking process is going on.The saddest part was to wait till the cooling is done after the baking process.

Now I can see the same at my home with my son who is so excited and just don't have the patience to wait for the outcome. He sometime come to me and asks,"Amma, could you please turn on the lights in the oven,so that I can see if the cake is done"Oh Boy!!I know what you feel inside and I miss those days dear..

So here goes the recipe,

Ingredients

All purpose flour -3 Cups sifted
Baking powder-1 tbsp
Salt -1/8 tsp
Butter-1 Cup unsalted
Sugar- 1 3/4 Cup granulated
Eggs-4 large eggs
Milk-1/2 to 1 cup in room temperature
Vanilla pure -2 tsp
Coca Powder-5 tbsp

Preparation

Preheat oven to 350 F with a rack in center of the oven.Prepare two baking tin with butter or spray and keep it aside.

In a bowl sift or whisk together the flour the baking powder and the salt.

In a bowl of the stand mixer with paddle or the electric hand mixer, beat the butter until soft and creamy.Gradually add sugar and beat until light and fluffy(3-5 min).Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.Scrape down the edges of the bowl as needed.Add the vanilla extract and beat until mixed well. With the mixer on low speed, alternately add the flour mixture and milk.Maintain the batter consistency.

Divide the batter to two and mix the coco powder with one of the batter and if the batter gets too tight add some milk to even the consistency. Now add the batter alternatively between the chocolate batter and the vanilla batter to the prepared baking tin. Please do not spread the batter with a spatula.Instead add one batter on top of the other repeatedly until the pan is half filled. And with a tooth pic, mix the batter in a circular motion from middle to end in one direction to make the zebra design.

Bake 27 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean and the cake springs back when pressed lightly in center.

Place the cakes on a wire rack to cool, in their pans, for about 10 minutes. Then invert the cakes onto a greased rack.
