Pumpkin(Mathanga) Erissery(kerala style)

Ingredients 

Red moong beans(van payar/cowpeas)-1 cup
Yellow Pumpkin -1cup
Turmeric powder-1/4 tsp
Grated coconut -1/2 cup
Grated coconut 1 cup
Green chilly -3
Cumin seeds(jeerakam)-1/4tsp
Coconut Oil-3tbsp
Mustard seeds-1/2tsp
Urad dal-1/4tsp
Dry red chilli-2
Curry Leaves-2 string
Water-1 1/4 cup

 Preparation:

  1. Add washed cow peas/vanpayar ,turmeric powder ,salt and water to a pressure cooker and cook in medium flame 4 whistle (water level should be higher than beans) 
  2. Then remove it from fire and keep aside until the pressure  goes down 
  3. Open the pressure cooker when its safe and add pumpkin pieces and again pressure cook (1 whistle) 
  4. Meanwhile grind grated coconut with cumin seeds and green chilies..No need to grind so finely 
  5. Then open the cooker and add this paste and allow it to boil for few minutes ..
  6. Boil till it attain its consistency (semi medium gravy.Neither too thick nor too thin)..

For seasoning 

Heat coconut oil in a pan and add dry chilly, mustard seeds,urad dal and curry leaves.
Then add coconut and fry till golden colour
Now add the above to pumpkin/cowpeas mix

Now your curry is ready to be served
