Dal Palak

 

Ingredients

  1. Toor Dal -150gm
  2. Spinach 100gm
  3. Oil 2tsp
  4. Desi ghee 1tsp
  5. Whole Red chilly -1
  6. Mustard seed -1 tsp  
  7. Cumin seed- 1tsp
  8. Hing
  9. Chop Garlic- 2tsp
  10. Green chilly -1
  11. Onion - 1 medium
  12. Tomato -1  medium
  13. salt- to Taste
  14. Turmeric powder -1tsp
  15. Red chilly powder - 1/2 tsp  
  16. Coriander powder-1/2tsp  
  17. Mango powder- 1/2tsp 

Preparation

  1. Wash and soak toor dal for 30 minutes 
  2. In a pressure cooker,cook the dal with enough water for 1-2 whistles on medium heat.
  3. Heat up a frying pan and add oil to the pan
  4. Once the pan is hot enough add 1 dried red chilly and mustard seeds
  5. Once mustard seeds splutter,add cumin seeds ,followed by green chilly and garlic.Make sure garlic wont burn.
  6.  Once the garlic is cooked,save half of the mixture in different container
  7. Now add onion and cook until onion turns soft
  8. Add chopped tomato to the above mixture cook for another 2-3 minutes
  9. Add all the spices to above mixture and cook for 2 mins
  10. Pour in 3-4 tbsp of hot water to the above mixture and cook for 2-3 minutes
  11. Now add the thinly chopped spinach and cook for 1 minute
  12. Add the boiled dal and let it cook on low heat for 5 minutes
  13. Add the saved garlic and mix well.
Dal palak is ready to be served with rice,chapati etc
