Ingredients
- Toor Dal -150gm
- Spinach 100gm
- Oil 2tsp
- Desi ghee 1tsp
- Whole Red chilly -1
- Mustard seed -1 tsp
- Cumin seed- 1tsp
- Hing
- Chop Garlic- 2tsp
- Green chilly -1
- Onion - 1 medium
- Tomato -1 medium
- salt- to Taste
- Turmeric powder -1tsp
- Red chilly powder - 1/2 tsp
- Coriander powder-1/2tsp
- Mango powder- 1/2tsp
Preparation
- Wash and soak toor dal for 30 minutes
- In a pressure cooker,cook the dal with enough water for 1-2 whistles on medium heat.
- Heat up a frying pan and add oil to the pan
- Once the pan is hot enough add 1 dried red chilly and mustard seeds
- Once mustard seeds splutter,add cumin seeds ,followed by green chilly and garlic.Make sure garlic wont burn.
- Once the garlic is cooked,save half of the mixture in different container
- Now add onion and cook until onion turns soft
- Add chopped tomato to the above mixture cook for another 2-3 minutes
- Add all the spices to above mixture and cook for 2 mins
- Pour in 3-4 tbsp of hot water to the above mixture and cook for 2-3 minutes
- Now add the thinly chopped spinach and cook for 1 minute
- Add the boiled dal and let it cook on low heat for 5 minutes
- Add the saved garlic and mix well.
Dal palak is ready to be served with rice,chapati etc
